Moving is easier when it's broken down into smaller steps with a clear timeline. This checklist will help you make sure nothing gets missed.
30 days out
- Assess the volume of your belongings and decide what to keep, give away, or throw out;
- Calculate the number of boxes you'll need (see our guide);
- Book your moving boxes or moving company, if needed;
- Notify your employer, bank, and other important contacts of your address change.
14 days out
- Start packing items you don't use daily (seasonal clothes, books, decor);
- Label boxes by room;
- Arrange utility re-registration or disconnection.
7 days out
- Pack most of your belongings, leaving only what you need day-to-day;
- Prepare a "first-day bag" with toiletries, chargers, and documents;
- Confirm the delivery/moving date and time.
The day before
- Pack the last remaining items;
- Check that all boxes are closed and labeled;
- Charge your phone and set aside key documents somewhere easy to find.
Moving day
- Check that nothing's been forgotten in closets, drawers, or on the balcony;
- Take photos of meter readings, if needed;
- Hand over keys or complete any other closing tasks at the old address.
First day in the new place
- Unpack the "first-day bag";
- Check the key systems (heating, water, electricity);
- Start unpacking by priority - the kitchen and bedroom usually come first.
First week
- Continue unpacking by room, using your labeling;
- Gather empty boxes in one place, ready for pickup;
- Update your address on official documents and subscriptions.
Box pickup
Once you've unpacked, you'll get a reminder about box pickup. Learn more about the process - how it works.
